Architecture & Environments
About the Module
This module introduced us into the different matters to consider about the surrounding environment that we ought to implement into our projects. We were introduced to ways to incorporate these climatic conditions into future projects in order to improve the energy consumption of our buildings.
Project I
This project introduced us into the topic of sustainability and its potential in architecture. We had to write an essay based on any topic in sustainability and demonstrate our understanding on the concept based on research we are able to gather currently.
Project II
This project introduced us to Daylighting and the impacts they had on a building which we took as a case study. We chose Bancho Church, and evaluated it by means of how the sun changes throughout the year to impact the ambience of the building, and whether if it affects the comfort of the user in any negative way.
Reflection
Overall, I've learned many ways to implement passive design strategies into my future designs that I will bring into consideration for my future studio work. I think that this was a beneficial module overall that allows me to build around the environment in a more sensitive manner. Especially in terms of daylighting that I found particularly fascinating, as light itself fluctuates greatly throughout the day and the year, alongside ventilation that allows users to maintain within their thermal comfort level. Both of these require some additional foresight in order to effectively implement it into any project, which I appreciate being able to gain some form of understanding in this regard throughout this module.
