Architecture History & Theory has been a pleasant module to take, despite the circumstances. Especially considering that the TIMeS portal is well-organised, this eases the aspect of independent learning tremendously. I also appreciate my tutors, Mr Nicholas and Ms Dee, for providing helpful constructive criticisms for our work in order to constantly improve and enhance our assignments.
Project I
Sketching Analysis
This was an assignment that encouraged our diagramming and analytical capabilities via the critical analysis of historical buildings across eras in order to document the progression of architecture and its styles across history.
I've always had the tendency of being overly wordy with my elaborations, as such, this was the one challenge which I'd struggled with. In terms of rendering and colours, I decided to keep it minimal to just simple by keeping it to around one to two colour schemes that correlates with the colours of the building. Hatching was used to introduce depth to the pieces.
Project II
Comparative Analysis Booklet
This project prompted us to analyse in a more thorough manner through the comparative analysis of Modern Malaysian architecture. For my group, we were assigned to the buildings Stadium Negara and the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The methodology my group undertook was to seek other Malaysian buildings to act as precedents for the comparative analyses, and, as such, space was a notable issue to overcome. Our descriptions and analyses had to be concise and straight to the point, yet elaborated to a certain degree that it is sufficiently detailed. It was unquestionably a challenge, but nonetheless I think that it was a satisfactory outcome, taking into consideration the page limit. I would have loved for the analyses to be better elaborated and fleshed out, however.
